The United Kingdom: Name and locate counties, cities and regions of the U.K.Map skills:

Use 4 and 6 figure gird references; Understand latitude, longitude, equator, hemispheres, tropics, polar circles and time zones.

Europe; Study a region of Europe and the Americas.

Rivers: Where are they? Where do they come from and lead to?

Year 6 curriculum summary:

Throughout year 6 students will participate in Geography lessons based the following topics and content:

The World we live In’ – including key information about countries, cities, continents and biomes.

Mountains of the world: European ranges, types of mountains and volcanoes, the Alps.

Local Geography: Map skills and direction, important landmarks, physical features, local wildlife, traffic and environment.

Brazil: Location and orientation, vegetation and climate, cities and people.

Year 7 Curriculum summary:

Throughout year 7 students will participate in Geography lessons based the following topics and content:

Map skills: different kinds of maps and their uses. Understanding maps, symbols and other features. What are/is scale, direction, contour and cross sections? Using and creating 6 figure grid references.

Coasts: Transport and disposition, erosion, coastal defences,weathering, headlands and coastal recessions.

Russia: An introduction into Russia, physicals features of

Tourism in South Asia: Welcome to Thailand, Why do tourists visit Thailand? When is it best to visit due to climate and weather.

Africa: Naming and ranking continents, A diverse continent.

GIS: Wind power, control and command,shopping for profit, control and command, farm management.

Year 8 Curriculum summary:

Throughout year 8 students will participate in Geography lessons based the following topics and content:

Further map skills: Students will develop further skills on maps, in particular ordinance survey maps.

The Middle East: Where is Dubai, building the impossible city, workers for Dubai, sustainable futures, Quartar World Cup.

China: What do we know about China? Population, popularity, changing the fastest growing city in the world.

National parks: Where are they? How are they designed? The Yorkshire Dales, conservation for the future, conflicts in the national parks.

Diamond mining: Controvesry surrounding diamond mining, environmental and social impacts.

Glaciation and geological timescales: Our time on Earth, how glaciers work, how they shape the land, ice age and geological timescales, continental drift, plate tectonics.
