The new Computing Curriculum was introduced in September 2014. This is a change from the well known ICT focus of technology. It brings with it exciting, innovative and engaging challenges to all students, which focuses on Computational Thinking and Problem Solving aspects of technology, with cross-curricular links.
The new Programme of Study encompasses the different strands of Computing:
- Programming and Development
- Data & Data Representation
- Hardware and Processing
- Communication and Networks
- Information Technology
Computing is a practical subject, where discovery and creativity are encouraged. Pupils studying computing gain an insight into computational systems of all kinds, whether or not they include computers. Computational thinking influences many fields such as, Arithmetic, Sciences, Linguistics, Economics, Statistics and Design aspects. It enables us to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limitations of human and mechanical intelligence.
Computational thinking empowers learners to develop their skills in decomposing problems into smaller parts, finding how to solve the problem by trial and error, and then being responsible for their solutions, making improvements as they work and progress. These are vital aspects of not only school life, but help develop individual skills ready for their future. Be it in agriculture, media, or sports. Computing will equip pupils to function in modern society effectively and efficiently.
We also provide access to the school’s Office 365 platform, which facilitates pupils and teachers to collaborate, inside and outside normal school hours. Therefore, expanding their learning beyond the classroom.
